A little ways northwest of Arco lies some pretty rugged mountains. Mining has gone on in this neck of the woods since the late 1800s. The result is many roads and trails that make a perfect destination for an ATV.

To get to Mackay, just go through Arco and travel another 20 miles or so down the road.

Once in Mackay, turn left after the bank (man, what was the name of that bank...). Follow the road until it turns into a gravel road, and then keep going until a trail heads off to the south. Park the rig and get ready to ride.

Trails go all over the place, so you will have no shortage of fun. We took the south trail which turned into a really cool trail that crossed a trestle bridge. From what I understand it was old tracks used to haul ore down the mountain pulled behind a special steam engine. They removed the tracks and fixed it up just for us ATVers. There are old mine ruins all over the place, which makes for a nice historic ride.
