Garn Mountain

Forum for Ride

Located a little over an hour northeast of Idaho Falls, near Kelly Canyon, are several ATV trails. One of the best groomed trails is the one to Garn Mountain. This trail offers some of the best scenery Idaho has to offer.

To get to the trailhead from Idaho Falls, go past the Kelly Canyon ski resort. When the road splits, take the left road to Moody Meadows. From the road split it is 10 miles to the turn off. From the St. Anthony side, take the Teton exit off of US20 and go through Newdale. Take a right on 11000 East (Byrman Road) and follow the main road for 10 to 15 miles.

The easiest way to find the turnoff past Newdale is to go past one potato pit, and turn right on the road by the second potato pit you pass. There is a small brown sign that says "Kelly Canyon" on it.

Either way you go, you can drive your truck to the trailhead, or when you get within 10 miles of the trailhead, park and ride the ATVs.

The trail is a really fun one full of whoops and turns. If you have a sporty ATV, you may want to take it just for the whoops. There are several side trails, so it is easy to get turned around. There are lots of good signs on the trail to help you find your way.

Keep following the signs to Blacktail Pass.

Before long they will say Garn Mountain Trail

It does get steep and rocky on the last part of the trail, so you will need a 4x4 ATV. If rocks just aren't your thing, there are plenty of other non-rocky trails in the area.
