Bear Gulch

Forum for Ride

Located just up the road from Ashton is Bear Gulch. It started out as a ski resort but never quite made it. The old railroad tracks that used to run up the warm river canyon have been removed, which makes for a very nice ATV trail.

To get to the trailhead, head to Ashton, and instead of going north into Island Park, turn right on Highway 47 going to the Warm River campground.

Go past the Warm River campground and take the Mesa Falls Scenic Byway road. In about 4 or 5 miles you will see the Bear Gulch parking lot on the left.

Park the rig and unload. There is a nice culvert that goes under the highway and onto the trail. From there head north on the trail as far as you like. It goes all the way to Montana.

Since there are plenty of campgrounds close, it makes a nice place to camp and ride.

The trail has a lot of nice scenery, especially as it winds along the warm river canyon. Being an old railroad track, there are a few bridges to cross and a tunnel to go through.
